How do I claim an ICICI Bank account after death?
ICICI Bank releases a nominated account on its claim form, the death certificate and the nominee’s identity proof. Without a nominee, it settles smaller balances on indemnity and heir declarations, and can insist on a succession certificate only above its published threshold.
Nominee on the account
Collect the claim form from the home branch or the bank’s deceased-claim page, attach the death certificate and your KYC, and ask for an acknowledgement of a complete file.
The bank then has 15 calendar days. Nomination does not make the money yours to keep if other Class I heirs exist — it only names who the bank may pay.
No nominee
Ask for the current threshold in ICICI Bank’s deceased-depositor policy. It cannot sit below the RBI floor for scheduled banks.
Do not start a succession-certificate case until the bank has said, in writing, that it will not accept an indemnity pack for that balance.
Common questions
- Will ICICI Bank freeze the account as soon as they hear of the death?
- Yes. After intimation the account is stopped for ordinary withdrawals. Using the debit card or net banking after that is not a claim — it is an unauthorised withdrawal.
